The residents of Lee Cottage, together with some residents from Barnlee, got together with friends and some FACT Directors and, with the help of a seeding grant from Fermanagh District Council, formed a charity “Barnlee Crafts & Activities” with the aim of providing funding and resources for additional activity equipment and therapies.
The residents of Lee Cottage are proud of having set up their charity along with the volunteers and enjoy their individual roles within the Committee.
Tuesday evening is a busy evening in Lee Cottage where the residents host a knitting/crochet and games club.
Each year for the past three years the knitting/crochet club has had a different project which have included knitting vests and bonnets for premature babies in hospital to sending vests and bonnets to Africa’s fish and chips babies. Knitting teddies, scarves, and other items for Christmas presents and to sell at a local Christmas Craft Fair or the newly opened FACT-Barnlee Crafts Charity Shop in Derrylin.
The residents get a real sense of achievement seeing their work on sale and by knowing they are helping others. The games club include playing cards, board games, karaoke, bingo, making gift cards, music.
In addition to special events throughout the year Barnlee and Lee Cottage residents have a structured daily programme of activities to cater for each individual’s needs they also led the way in taking decisions on desired activities. The most recent activity being a Computer Class run by a volunteer.
